Thinking of Color

citrus slices

The progression of ideas is always fun. I start with one thing that leads to another than another…normal, right? So here is what my brain has been thinking about this week..

It started with jeans. I love my jeans but I kill them I wear them so much. I buy new ones every few months but I can’t say good bye to them until I patch and repair them at least a few times :) It’s California no one cares if I have crazy looking jeans it might even be good thing, right? My daughter did this knee for me I like it because it’s pretty subtle. It got me thinking about citrus the pattern reminded me of citrus slices and then citrus colors.

I did a quick little french knot piece with some citrus inspiration, plus I had my embrodiery thread out so why not. Punny as my daughter would say whawha. I have no idea what to do with it…a pillow a wall hanging? I’ll do some more than decide. Then I started thinking of some more citrus colors.

I sliced up some citrus for inspiration, the colors are great they should be painted. I love working in watercolors but as many times as I’ve attempted painting citrus with watercolors I’ve failed. I can see it in my mind they fresh colors the juicy fruit it should totally work. It seems to muddy though because of the shadowing plus the vibrance just is lost in translation. If I stopped at everything in art that failed ha I’d have nothing. So I did some photos of the slices I’m going to study them and then try again. I really loved the fragrance it seriously makes me happy and then I loved the candy like quality of the sun and the slices so much happiness from something so simple. So from those slices comes a salad tonight with citrus, beets and feta and a new attempt at some type of watercolor…I’ve  got my fingers crossed :) and a revived pair of jeans for the week and maybe a pillow project or a wall hanging or…
