Downton + Cocktail

ready set go

If this weeks Downton Abbey is as horrible as last weeks you might need a cocktail/s to make it through Sunday’s show.

This is the year they’ve talked about the new thing called a cocktail hmm those filthy Americans and their pedestrian ways. So maybe put your sherry aside and shake up something frothy, cold and delicious.

To celebrate the orange bitters that my husband has been working away on and which are now completely finished, bottled and waiting for labels, here are two good orange bitter cocktails:

Number one is a Commodore which is DA appropriate don’t you think? This is made with delicious rye and lime. Which really makes no sense together but it works, honestly delicious!

2oz Rye Whisley
1/2 oz lime juice
2 dashes Orange bitters
1/2 oz agave syrup
Shake well with ice strain into your cocktail glass that also has ice, add a twist of lime.

Those ice maker cubes kill the look of a good drink, oh well drink on.

The second drink for the shaker was an Angler but I think we’ll call it The Thomas- pretty to look at but bitter enough to make you who want to slap someones face. I added a 1/2 oz of agave syrup afterwards you could try the puriest form or go ahead and put it in the shaker. It has bright yet bitter flavor and the orange bitters add some meloncholy… totally joking

1 1/2 oz gin

3 dashes of orange bitters

2 dashes Angostura bitters

1/2 oz grenadine

Put in in the shaker add all the above (plus agave if you want it sweeter) shake well and strain into a cocktail  glass with ice.
